Working visit of the Consular Department to Denmark and Iceland

 

On February 13-16, 2024, a working visit of the delegation of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia was held in Denmark and Iceland. The delegation was led by the Director of the Consular Department, Giorgi Tabatadze, and the purpose of the visit was to share experiences on effective state activities in the process of managing the crises.

On February 13th, the Georgian delegation was hosted by the Danish Foreign Ministry. At the meeting, Denmark's plan of preparedness and action in crises was discussed. The Danish side also presented specific case examples of difficult crises related to its citizens.

On February 15-16, high-level meetings were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Justice of Iceland, as well as with the Reykjavík Police.

Within the framework of the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, attention was focused on the possibilities of providing consular services to citizens in crisis situations, including access to digital services.

In the Ministry of Justice, the readmission agreement and its software effectiveness, as well as the issues related to migration, were discussed.

Reykjavík's police commissioner provided information on the challenges facing the country's law enforcement agencies, including the illegal migration-related issues.

With the support of the Honorary Consul of Georgia to Iceland, a meeting was held with Georgian diaspora representatives living in Iceland. The main topic of conversation was legal employment opportunities and challenges in Iceland.
