Ambassador's meeting with Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Danish Parliament
On May 17, 2023, Ambassador of Georgia Nata Menabde met with Michael Aastrup Jensen, Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Danish Parliament.
At the meeting, the parties welcomed the active dynamics of bilateral relations between Georgia and Denmark and highlighted the recent visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen to Georgia. The Minister was accompanied by the Danish parliamentarians at the visit, including members of the foreign policy committee, which was positively assessed at the meeting. The special emphasis was made on the opening of the First Danish resident Embassy in Tbilisi, which will raise the traditionally friendly relations between the countries to a higher level.
Attention was focused on the priority of the European integration process of Georgia and the importance of Denmark’s continued support in this regard.
The Ambassador provided the chairman with detailed information about the process of implementation of 12 recommendations of the European Union, the tangible progress, and ongoing work, which the Georgian side is successfully carrying out to fulfill all the issues stipulated by the European agenda. The positive expectation regarding receiving the candidate status at the end of this year was noted at the meeting.
Michael Aastrup Jensen expressed his support for the European perspective of Georgia and added that at this very important moment, the Danish side is ready to help Georgia get closer to Europe. In this context, the two sides focused on the priority of further strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, which is of particular importance not only in the context of European integration but also given the existing security challenges in the region.
