Georgia’s Independence Day Celebrated in Copenhagen

On 8 June 2026, a reception dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day was held at the Royal Danish Playhouse in Copenhagen.

Guests were welcomed by H.E. Nata Menabde, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. In her remarks, the Ambassador acknowledged the historic significance of 26 May 1918 and highlighted the fundamental principles of the First Republic, which continue to shape Georgia’s statehood. She also emphasised Georgia’s centuries-old history, cultural identity, and contribution to the development of European civilisation.

The Ambassador further addressed the current dynamics and future prospects of Georgia-Denmark relations, underlining the importance of strengthening cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Special attention was drawn to the launch of direct flights between Tbilisi and Copenhagen, which will be operated by Norwegian starting from 27 June this year. The company has granted round-tickets to two randomly selected guests.

As part of the event’s focus on advancing Georgian–Danish cultural ties, contemporary Georgian classical music pieces were performed by the Danish youth ensemble Verdenslyd, composed of alumni of Sankt Annæ Gymnasium.

The reception was attended by representatives of the Danish Government, the diplomatic corps, Parliament, cultural and academic circles, the business community, and the Georgian diaspora.
