All About Georgian Wines

Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen paid an official visit to Georgia on 27 – 28 November 2008. He met with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Grigol Mgaloblishvili, Speaker of Parliament David Bakradze and representatives of the opposition in Parliament, including the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission that under wide publicity investigates the events leading up to the start of the conflict with Russia on 7 August 2008.

Also the Prime Minister met with internally displaced persons from South Ossetia at a centre in Tbilisi which is supported by the Danish Refugee Council and Danish assistance. He enquired about their conditions at the centre and possibilities for returning. Further the Prime Minister met with the Danish EU Monitors in the EUMM Headquarters in Tbilisi and received a briefing about the current situation by the Head of Mission Hansjörg Haber.

Talks focused on the situation up to and after the conflict with Russia in August and Danish support for Georgia’s closer integration with NATO and the EU, not least in the run-up to the Nato Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Brussels on 2-3 December 2008, and support for economic recovery. In his talks with his Georgian counterparts the Prime Minister also touched upon possibilities for extending the commercial and energy cooperation between Denmark and Georgia just as he commended Georgia for progress with liberalising the market economy and combating corruption in the last few years as well as the latest efforts at a further strengthening of the country’s democracy through a “second Rose Revolution”.
