Dear Friends,

I would like to welcome you to the official page of the Embassy of Georgia to the Kingdom of Denmark and the Republic of Iceland.

Our Embassy is operating in the city of Copenhagen for more than 10 years (since December 1, 2016) and strives to deepen and enrich bilateral relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Denmark as well as between Georgia and the Republic of Iceland. We are delighted that during this time close political and steadily growing economic relations have been established among our states. Today, Denmark and Iceland are unequivocal supporters of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and fully share our country’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Bilateral and multilateral cooperation among our countries is successfully increasing, thus representing the excellent example of relations between the European states.

Expanding relations with the Nordic countries has always been one of the main priorities of Georgia’s foreign policy. Since the restoration of Georgia’s independence, in the beginning of 90’s of the last century, Georgia established diplomatic relations with all five countries of the Northern Europe, including the Kingdom of Denmark (July 1, 1992) and the Republic of Iceland (September 21, 1992). Our desire to share good practice of the European countries and adapt their successful model of statehood, remains even more important today, as Georgia intensively continues its irreversible integration with the European family.

We firmly believe that along with close political relations, the countries possess significant economic potential, which should be further expanded for the benefit of all parties. Today, when the Association Agreement, including its main part - Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) with the EU has fully entered into force, economic cooperation should become one of the most important components on our bilateral agenda, which on its turn will largely enhance existing friendly relations between the countries and promote people to people contacts between our nations.

The Georgian Embassy will dedicate its utmost efforts to deepening of cultural relations and properly representing centuries-old, unique Georgian culture in Denmark and Iceland. This year, Georgia is preparing to mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations with various European countries, including Denmark and Iceland. The Embassy in Copenhagen will be actively involved in various cultural activities and events throughout 2017.

We sincerely wish to work closely with Diaspora organizations, with fellow Georgians residing in Denmark and Iceland. It should be underlined, that the Georgian Embassy is, first and foremost, the home of every Georgian, therefore we are always open for cooperation, new ideas and initiatives. At the same time, the Embassy will more actively continue to protect interests and rights of Georgians diaspora in their residing countries.

Personally for me, as for the new Ambassador it is exceptional privilege and great responsibility to represent our country in two very important northern European states. Considering the already established, firm relations among our countries, I hope to further contribute to the strengthening of bilateral, as well as multilateral cooperation between Georgia and Kingdom of Denmark, as well as between Georgia and the Republic of Iceland.
